The alphabetic code denotes the type of statement (only statements that generate notes are shown), and the numbers represent parameter values that will be passed to an instrument. Each parameter resides in a "field" called a p-field. In exam ple 1 . 1, the code makes use of five p-fields. In the Csound coding ''1'' is in the first p field, "0" is in the second, "1" is in the third, and so on. The coding in our example assumes a rather simple computer instrument using only the parameters of instrument number, starting time, duration, frequency, and amplitude.
