Holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) forests and woodlands were regarded as a paradigm for Mediterranean terrestrial ecosystems. within the western a part of the Mediterranean Basin, those forests and woodlands occupy huge parts and therefore play an important function within the panorama. a few examine initiatives from the Centre d'Ecologie Fonctionnelle et Evolutive (CEFE), the Centre de Recerca Ecologica i Aplicacions Forestals (CREAF), and from many different laboratories are at present concentrating on Q. ilex ecosystems, and a couple of difficulties have seemed relating not just easy wisdom but additionally administration elements. for that reason, the CEFE and the CREAF determined to together manage the workshop on Quercus ilex L. Ecosystems, which was once held in Montpellier and Barcelona in September 1990.
the current quantity comprises a variety of papers awarded in the course of the workshop and different papers contributed after the workshop.
The papers are divided into 5 sections: Biogeography and background; constitution, productiveness and Dynamics; Water Relationships; Nutrient biking; and administration.

Economic Dynamics: Theory and Computation

This article offers an advent to the fashionable conception of monetary dynamics, with emphasis on mathematical and computational concepts for modeling dynamic platforms. Written to be either rigorous and fascinating, the e-book exhibits how sound figuring out of the underlying conception ends up in potent algorithms for fixing actual global difficulties.

Cities and Regions as Self-organizing Systems: Models of Complexity (Environmental Problems & Social Dynamics Series, Vol 1)

A transparent methodological and philosophical advent to complexity idea as utilized to city and nearby structures is given, including an in depth sequence of modelling case stories compiled over the past couple of many years. in response to the hot complicated structures considering, mathematical types are constructed which try to simulate the evolution of cities, towns, and areas and the advanced co-evolutionary interplay there is either among and inside of them.

In Liguria (NW Italy) G. Barberis, S. Peccenini & G. 1991 Keywords: Mediterranean climate, Quercus ilex communities, Quercus ilex ecology Abstract The climatic characteristics of the Liguria region have been outlined by means of raw data and derived indices (water balance related to potential evapotraspiration, Rivas-Martinez's index of mediterraneity and thermicity, De Martonne's index of dryness, and Emberger's pluviothermic quotient and index of summer dryness). Their interpretation suggests that Liguria is a boundary region between two different climatic areas: the Mediterranean and that of Central Europe.

G. Bolos (1970); Gentile et af. (1984, 1985); Mariotti (1984); Orsino & Fossati Sanviti (1986); Nowak (1987); Ferrarini (1988); Paola et al. (1989). In the present work the role of Quercus ilex within the evergreen vegetational belt of Liguria is examined. The links between the presence of Quercus ilex and the local climatic conditions are very close, 36 thus some space has been devoted to an outline of the climatic characteristics in Liguria. The distribution in the region both of the species and of Quercus ilex complexes are investigated and special attention is given to the discontinuities of their distribution in the western portion of the reglOn.
