The commands on the right of the screen are those required to set up the beam model. The sequence is commenced by pointing to INITIALISE and then entering Young's Modulus, second moment and length of beam via the keyboard. The values displayed in the top right corner are then changed from the default values to those entered. The beam is shown on the screen as a line of standard length 250 screen units and the resultant scale factor is used for all further χ direction scaling. Once a load type is selected, the input mode (tablet or keypad) determines the procedure. When it has been positioned appropriately, the user sets its position by closing the pen switch. With a double ended load the left side is positioned first, the load symbol "rubber b a n d e d " along the beam and the right side set. After a load position is set its magnitude is rubber banded in the vertical direction and is set by closing the pen switch when the magnitude is at the desired value.
