Williams has taught at Swarthmore College, Wesleyan University, Princeton University, and is now a senior lecturer at Barnard College. Dr. Williams’s primary interest is to understand the thermodynamic and kinetic behavior of nucleic acid structure. Nucleic acids, in the form of the huge polymers DNA and RNA, are central to the genetic machinery of cells. Dr. Williams and her research group are studying shorter nucleic acids, with the goal of determining how conditions such as the presence of ions in the cellular solutions affect the structures of those nucleic acids.
