In the year 1850 he was elected as a member of the Indiana Constitutional Convention and took a most active part in the proceedings of that august body.

Shortly after the beginning of the Civil War, Mr. L. C. Hopkins championed these symphony concerts, increasing their numbers to twelve during the seasons and retaining them under the direction of Bams. When Mr. Hopkins failed in business in 1866, the concerts were reassumed under the control of Prof. Bams, who continued them until 1869.
