It sounds cheesy, but I really enjoyed the last three multi-author anthologies that I published. (Of course, you would probably hope that I enjoy the ones I publish…) For multi-author anthologies, in recent years I have really enjoyed Dark Faith and Glitter and Mayhem (Apex) and METAtropolis (Brilliance Audio/Tor) online. I recommend the package very highly indeed. When I speak of a short story, I am referring to the commercial or category short story, not the New Yorker or "literary" short story. Four Elements is a collection of poetry and short fiction by four women of horror who are all Bram Stoker Award winning poets. Each writer takes on one of the four elements of natureearth, air, fire and waterand brings their own vision to each. Earth by Marge Simon contains poems and stories that all deal with various consequences of peoples actions including war, desolation, destruction and death, including A Time For Planting about the consequences of love and lust and Quake about how short our time can be. Water by Rain Graves which includes many pieces dealing with destruction through mythology, including a series of six poems, which I loved, titled Hades and Its Five that encompasses all of the myths of Hades, the river Styx and the ferryman. Fire by Charlee Jacob that includes works dealing with death and destruction Paid in Full I’m still regularly blown open by the wildly different effects writers achieve using the somewhat limited range of human experience, language and consciousness. The following 10 collections--whole atmospheres made entirely of words--feel essential, either because they manage to make human experience feel new, or because, like some uncle who left a $1,000,000 legacy, their influence lingers. 1 , source: Struggles and Triumphs: Women read for free Struggles and Triumphs: Women in History.
